At the 2008 FINA World Open Water Championships, the first qualification event for Beijing 2008, 14 athletes qualified either as the top 10 at that world fixture or as the continental champions. Due to the fact that only Australia took part in the World Championships last April, so the FINA decided to give out Oceania's only ticket at the Beijing qualification tournament. Thus, the number of the tickets distributed this time reached 11.
